Air Duct Installation & Replacement | Built for Better Comfort and Airflow
The Part of Your HVAC System Most People Forget About
Here’s the thing about ductwork: nobody thinks about it until something’s wrong. Most people picture their furnace, boiler, or heat pump when they think about their HVAC system, but the ductwork is what actually moves that heated air through every room of your home or business. If those ducts are damaged, poorly designed, or just worn out, your whole system has to work harder to keep you comfortable, and you’re the one paying for it every month.
At Fischer Mechanical, we handle air duct installation and replacement for homes and businesses throughout Juneau and Southeast Alaska. With more than 33 years of combined experience, Billy Fischer and Kasen design, fabricate, and install ductwork built specifically for your property. If you’re also replacing the HVAC system itself, our Residential & Commercial HVAC Installation service pairs directly with this one, so everything works together instead of ending up as mismatched pieces.
Whether you’re building a new home, remodeling, or replacing aging ductwork, we’ll help put together a setup that delivers better airflow, better efficiency, and comfort that holds up for years.
Is Your Ductwork Holding Your HVAC System Back?
A lot of homeowners are surprised by how much ductwork affects the way an HVAC system performs. Over time, ducts can develop leaks, take damage, or stop meeting the needs of a home after a renovation or addition. Older duct systems often have layouts that restrict airflow, so some rooms run warm, others stay cold, and nobody’s quite comfortable.
You might notice uneven temperatures around the house, weak airflow from certain vents, energy bills going up, or equipment that runs constantly without catching up. Those are usually signs your ductwork needs as much attention as the heating equipment itself. That said, not every airflow problem means you need new ducts. Sometimes it’s the equipment, not the ductwork, and that’s where our HVAC Repair & Maintenance service comes in. It’s worth having the whole system looked at before assuming a full replacement is the answer.
When ductwork is sized and installed right, conditioned air reaches every room the way it’s supposed to, which usually means lower energy bills and a home or workspace that feels comfortable.
Custom Ductwork Designed for Your Property
Every building has a different layout, so every duct system should be designed around that specific space. At Fischer Mechanical, we take the time to look at your property’s layout, heating needs, and airflow requirements before recommending a solution.
We fabricate a lot of our own sheet metal duct pieces locally in our Juneau shop, the same Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication capability behind our other HVAC work. That means we can build custom transitions, plenums, offsets, and specialty fittings made for your project instead of forcing a generic part into place. The result is a cleaner installation, better airflow, and fewer delays waiting on specialty parts to arrive from outside Alaska.
As lifelong Juneau residents, Billy and Kasen know what it takes to design HVAC systems for Southeast Alaska’s cool, wet climate. Whether we’re installing ductwork in a new home, upgrading an older building, or working a commercial project out in Sitka, Haines, Hoonah, or another remote community, every installation gets the same careful attention.
Proudly Serving Juneau & Southeast Alaska
Fischer Mechanical provides residential and commercial air duct installation and replacement throughout Juneau, Douglas, Auke Bay, Mendenhall Valley, and surrounding Southeast Alaska communities, including Sitka, Haines, Hoonah, Gustavus, and beyond.
Our FAQ'S
Questions? We're glad you asked!
How do I know if I need duct replacement or just duct cleaning?
If your ducts are structurally fine but you’re dealing with dust, musty smells, or general buildup, cleaning is often enough. If you’re seeing physical damage, leaks, crushed sections, or ductwork that was never sized right for your home, replacement is usually the better long-term fix. We’ll take a look and give you an honest read on which one solves the problem.
How long does air duct installation or replacement take?
It depends on the size of the home or building and how much ductwork needs to be replaced. A single-room job might take a day, while a full-home replacement can take longer. Once we’ve evaluated your property, we’ll give you a clear timeline before any work starts.
Can you replace ductwork without tearing into my walls or ceilings?
In a lot of cases, yes. We access ductwork through crawl spaces, attics, and mechanical rooms whenever possible to minimize disruption to your finished spaces. Every home’s different, so we’ll walk you through what to expect for your specific layout before we begin.
Do you fabricate custom ductwork for older or unusually shaped homes?
Yes. Older homes throughout Juneau and Southeast Alaska often have layouts, crawl spaces, or ceiling heights that standard ductwork just doesn’t fit. Since we fabricate a lot of our own components locally, we can build transitions and fittings made for your specific space instead of forcing a generic part into place.
How often should air ducts be replaced?
There’s no fixed number since it depends on the age of the ductwork, the material, and how well it’s held up over the years. As a general guide, ducts that are 15 to 20 years old, showing visible damage, or no longer sized right for your HVAC equipment are usually worth having inspected.
Will new ductwork lower my energy bills?
Properly sized, well-sealed ductwork helps your HVAC system move air more efficiently, which often does bring bills down. How much depends on the condition of your old ducts and the size of your home, but leaky or poorly designed ductwork is one of the more common reasons energy bills run higher than they should.
Do you install ductwork for both new construction and remodels?
Yes. We handle ductwork for new builds, additions, remodels, and straight replacements of aging systems, for both residential and commercial properties throughout Juneau and Southeast Alaska.
What if my ductwork is fine but my HVAC system still isn't working right?
That happens more often than people expect. If the ductwork’s in good shape but airflow or comfort issues persist, the problem is likely with the equipment itself rather than the ducts. That’s a good time to have the whole system looked at rather than assuming new ductwork is the fix.
Do you offer free estimates on duct installation and replacement?
Yes. We’ll evaluate your property, explain what we find, and give you a straightforward estimate with no pressure attached.
Can you service ductwork projects outside of Juneau?
Absolutely. We regularly travel to Sitka, Haines, Hoonah, Gustavus, and other Southeast Alaska communities for ductwork installation and replacement. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just reach out.
